Katie Lee Biegel’s Shrimp Toast Is the Quick & Easy Holiday Appetizer Your Guests Will Be Raving About

You don’t want to be that one party guest who brings the same boring old appetizer to every event they attend. Chips and dip only get you so far, people! Instead, try something like Katie Lee Biegel‘s Festive Shrimp Toast and you’ll never go back to bringing the same old, same old again. This appetizer is loaded with flavor and so simple to make, it might just become your new go-to bring along for the holidays.

“Today on #TheKitchen, it’s the holiday season!” Biegel wrote in a recent Instagram post caption. “I’m putting a twist on classic Shrimp Toast, and I have a festive touch to make your bubbly drinks extra special.”

On her recipe page on Food Network’s website, Biegel writes that her Festive Shrimp Toast is inspired by the classic Chinese American dish. “The traditional recipe is deep-fried, but I rarely fry at home, so I use a toasted baguette, which I top with the shrimp mixture and bake in the oven,” she notes. “Try serving it with a glass of bubbly at cocktail hour.”

You first want to toast your baguette slices in the oven after giving them a healthy coating of butter and a sprinkle of salt. After those are done toasting and set aside for cooling, you’ll make your shrimp topping. Start by pulsing ginger, scallions, and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped. Next, add and pulse mayonnaise, sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar, salt, and red pepper flakes. Finally, add in your raw shrimp and pulse once or twice until they’re chopped, but not too finely.

Then, spread your shrimp mixture onto your toasted baguettes and sprinkle with a few sesame seeds. Toss the baguettes back into the oven and bake them until the shrimp is almost pink but not totally cooked through. Finish the baguettes under your broiler, cooking them until golden brown, and serve them warm with a glass of champagne or prosecco.

Biegel’s shrimp toasts take well under an hour to make and will be a smashing success every time you whip them up. In fact, your friends might start asking you to ditch the chips and dip for good and to bring your famous shrimp toasts to every party from here on out! Grab the full recipe here.
