This Costco Apple Pie Hack Is Shockingly Simple

There are some things you can always count on Costco for, and providing dessert is definitely one of them. From cakes and mousse to cookies and “muffins” that are basically cupcakes, Costco’s best bakery items are just as good as, if not better than, what the average person can make at home. But we don’t always want to show up to a function with a cold baked good that’s still in its Costco shrink-wrap. So when we saw TikTok user ItsMaggiePerkins‘ video sharing how she transforms Costco’s double crust pie into a cozy dessert that’s the epitome of semi-homemade, we knew we’d have to try it the next time we need to make a crowd-pleasing dessert in a hurry.

“The truth is out,” Perkins shared on TikTok. “My signature apple pie bake is actually just a deconstructed Costco apple pie.” So, how does she turn the store-bought pie into something that’s more than the sum of its parts? It’s so easy. First, you break up the pie, through both the top crust and the bottom crust, with a spatula. Then, transfer the pie from its tin into your favorite baking dish.

Bake the pie to warm it up, then top it with a crumble topping and bake it again until it’s bubbling at the edges and golden brown on top. You can choose what kind of crumble topping you want to use. For a classic apple crisp vibe, you can combine oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter, and a sprinkle of salt, and sprinkle that on top of the pie. Or, you can make a buttery crumble with flour, butter, and sugar, mixing it until it starts to clump together, and add that to the top.

Pop the deconstructed apple pie back into the oven until the topping is golden and crisp, and you’ll be rewarded with a dessert that seems so much more special than a random store-bought pie, but that takes almost no work.
