Ina Garten Just Shared the Most Searched Recipe on Her Website & the Easy Hack She Uses to Make It Mess-Free

Ina Garten has so many amazing recipes that it’s hard to pick a favorite. But if we must, then we would probably have to go with one of her most popular dinners. The Barefoot Contessa recently revealed what her most-searched recipe was this year, and it’s not hard to see why!

“Dinner party menu, part 2!” Garten captioned a post on Instagram. “My Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs is not just one of my favorite winter recipes but it’s one of the most searched recipes on our website – in fact, I’m making it this weekend.”

Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs sound so good, especially during those cold winter months. However, it can be a bit messy, so Garten shared her trick for keeping the kitchen clean while you whip these up. “What I love most about this recipe is that instead of searing the short ribs on the stovetop – and getting hot oil everywhere!! – I roast them in the oven,” she explained. “I know I say this too often, but really, how easy is that?!”

Garten shares more details about her recipe, originally found in her 2018 cookbook, Cook Like a Pro, on her website. It includes five pounds of “very meaty” bone-in beef short ribs cut into two-inch chunks, chopped celery and carrots, fresh thyme, and a bottle of a dry red wine like Chianti or Burgundy.

Start by placing the short ribs on a sheet pan, brushing the tops with olive oil and other ingredients, then roasting in the oven. While this is cooking, heat up more olive oil, celery, carrots, and other ingredients in a Dutch oven, adding the wine after a while and letting the mixture simmer before adding the final ingredients.

The ribs go in the Dutch oven next, along with all the juices and seasonings from the pan. You’ll bring it to a boil, cover, and cook in the oven “until the meat is very tender.” The sauce will continue to simmer until you are ready to serve (Garten recommends pairing it with her Creamy Parmesan Polenta, Roasted Broccolini, and Coffee Granita for dessert.)

For a bonus recipe hack, Garten recommends starting this cooking process early. “You can make the short ribs a day in advance, and while you’re reheating it, roast the broccolini and cook the polenta,” she added in her caption. “Even better, the Coffee Granita can be made days in advance! Dinner party done, no stress!” (No stress is exactly what we’re looking for!)

“Let me show you how gorgeous this is,” Garten says in the video. “There’s short ribs, but also sauce and vegetables, and the sauce is thick and rich and absolutely amazing. Now you can see why this is one of my favorites,” she added, pulling off a chunk of bread to serve with the dish.

People praised this recipe in the comments. “My favorite to make in this cold weather. I make 2 batches and share with my neighbors❤️ THE FLAVOR !!!” one person commented. Another wrote, “Looks divine!”

“This is such a perfect cozy winter comfort meal, @inagarten! Every part of this is fabulous,” someone else said.
