Decadent, gooey, and full of cinnamon-sugar yumminess, cinnamon rolls are always a treat. In their standard form — whether homemade or from a can — they are perfect. But if you want to make them extra delicious for Valentine’s Day, The Pioneer Woman has a simple and sweet twist that you’ll fall in love with! Make her strawberry-focused cinnamon rolls this week, and your Valentine will love them!
Ree Drummond, the mom and chef behind The Pioneer Woman, shared a picture of her Strawberry Sweet Rolls, featuring a creamy pink glaze that looks adorable (and delicious!). “These pretty pink strawberry sweet rolls taste like pure sunshine. ☀️🍓” she wrote on her The Pioneer Woman Magazine Instagram account. She explains how these replace the classic cinnamon and sugar with something more fruity for a fun twist.
“Instead of cinnamon and sugar, they’re stuffed with strawberry preserves and topped with a luscious strawberry glaze,” she wrote.
Whoa this sounds good! We love cinnamon as much as the next mom, but strawberry filling and strawberry icing sounds amazing.
To make the recipe, start with the dough (which, BTW, can be made ahead of time and refrigerated so you have less to do on Feb. 14). Start by making the dough in a large saucepan with milk, sugar, yeast, and other ingredients. You will need to cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel for about an hour before adding more ingredients and covering once more with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap. This time, put it in the fridge to chill for about an hour or overnight.
When it’s time to assemble, you’ll need to work on a lightly floured surface. Flatten the dough into a large rectangle, then spread strawberry preserves over the dough. Roll it tightly, then cut into slices and arrange it in the dish. The rolls will rise when covered in a warm place, and then they are finally ready to bake. Trust us: they are worth the extra effort!
While they bake, make a strawberry glaze with powdered sugar, freeze-dried strawberries, and other ingredients. Pour the glaze over the strawberry rolls as soon as the oven dings, and it will be “nearly impossible not to eat the entire pan warm straight out of the oven.” These are even better than chocolate-covered strawberries!
