Ina Garten’s Shrimp Linguini Fra Diavolo Makes Great Use of That Store-Bought Marinara Sauce in Your Pantry

We all have a jar of pasta sauce sitting in our pantry waiting for the night when we need to make dinner in a pinch. And although store-bought pasta sauce is fine as is, Ina Garten shares how she likes to spice up a basic store-bought pasta sauce and turn it into a delicious Fra Diavolo shrimp dish.

“I’m not gonna tell if you’re not gonna tell,” Garten joked in a clip from Barefoot Contessa posted to Food Network’s Instagram page. Our lips are sealed!

While boiling the linguini, Garten sautees red onion in some butter and oil. Once tender, Garten likes to add a lot of garlic and red pepper flakes. “Give it a little bit of heat,” she said.

Next, Garten adds her seasoned raw shrimp into the pan — she likes to season her shrimp with salt and pepper — and let them sear on one side. Once pink, flip the shrimp and sear them on the other side before adding a splash of white wine.

Then, get out your jar of pasta sauce. Garten uses a jarred arrabbiata sauce, which is basically a spicy marinara. Although Garten says you shouldn’t be tempted to use marinara sauce, you could go for marinara in a pinch and add in extra red pepper flakes or diced red chili peppers.

Add your cooked linguini into the sauce, along with some fresh chopped parsley, and toss everything together. If you need to loosen the sauce at all, use a bit of your pasta water leftover from boiling.

Before serving, Garten likes to sprinkle a bit of toasted panko on top to give her dish an extra layer of crunch.
