It happens every year. After the holidays, the menu board of our local Starbucks starts looking a little sparse, covered in little signs saying, “Sorry, we’re out,” about our most-loved drinks of December. But in 2019, Starbucks is coming into the new year strong with a cozy-sounding drink they’re calling the #CSL.
That stands for cinnamon shortbread latte. Available as of Jan. 8, this drink features the flavors of brown butter and vanilla blended with espresso and milk and topped with sprinkles of cinnamon and nutmeg. According to a press release, “[I]t’s like cookie butter in a cup,” which sounds pretty great to us.
You can enjoy the CSL hot, iced or as a blended Frappuccino (basically, a delicious milkshake in this case), and don’t forget — you can choose between the bold signature espresso or a smoother blond espresso to further customize your experience. We like how the bolder espresso balances the sweetness of the drink, but to each their own.
One thing that’s nonnegotiable? We think this is one sipper that’s just begging to be topped with a little whipped cream.
If you’re waiting in line to order your CSL and start to feel peckish, you could try one of the chain’s newest breakfast bites too. They’re serving up ham, cheddar and pepper sous vide egg bites if you’re looking for a high-protein snack (17 grams per serving!) or a new ham and Swiss panini if you want something a little heartier.
And if you don’t live near a Starbucks (I just spend two months without one and trust, it was awful), rejoice — they’re now selling vegan bottled beverages, including Almondmilk Café Latte and Almondmilk Café Mocha, in grocery stores.
The holidays might be over, but at least Starbucks is giving us something to look forward to on those frigid winter mornings!
