Heaping mounds of nacho-cheese chips and jars of store-bought dips, slow cooker meatballs made with grape jelly and ketchup, and just-delivered boxes of pepperoni pizzas: This is exactly the spread you won’t find at Barefoot Contessa host Ina Garten‘s home the day of the Super Bowl. How do we know this? The author of 13 cookbooks just shared a drool-worthy Super Bowl menu, and she’s putting a homemade spin on some game day favorites.
“When I think about Super Bowl parties, I think of dips and easy-to-assemble snacks, everyone talking at once, and having a fabulous time, whether they’re watching the game or not,” Garten captioned the mouthwatering image carousel featuring her Baked Fontina, Hot Dogs in Puff Pastry, Easy Cheese Board, Roasted Shrimp Cocktail Louis, and Buttermilk Ranch Dressing for Crudités.
It wouldn’t be the Super Bowl without some sort of cheesy dip, and Garten’s decadent baked fontina definitely fits the bill. She serves it with crusty slices of toasted French bread, and says “I actually take the skillet out of the oven and just serve it right in the pan!” The recipe comes from her book How Easy is That?.
There are some foods that no party would be complete without, and pigs in a blanket is one of them. But Garten gives this Super Bowl classic an upgrade by swapping the crescent roll dough for puff pastry, and using the best quality hot dogs. Serve with homemade honey mustard for dipping, or encourage guests to pair them with the baked fontina dip for a high-brow take on cheese dogs. The recipe comes from Garten’s book Go-To Dinners.
We like to have a few snacks out that can be enjoyed all afternoon, and Garten’s Easy Cheese Board hits the mark. Follow her guidelines to make a snackable, balanced board. We also always have a veggie tray to serve alongside the richer snacks on Super Bowl Sunday, but you can make this appetizer a little more special by pairing the vegetables with the homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing from the Barefoot Contessa cookbookHow Easy Is That?
Last but not least, shrimp cocktail is so last year. Instead, make Garten’s roasted shrimp cocktail Louis from Cook Like a Pro, which pairs succulent roasted shrimp with a creamy horseradish-spiked sauce that’s bursting with flavor.
And if you want more Garten-approved, elevated Game Day appetizers that’ll please any crowd, oh, she has plenty.
