Every year Trader Joe’s asks their customers about their all-time favorite TJ products and publishes the results during their Customer Choice Awards. There are several categories, including Best Overall, Best Cheese, and Best Beverage, but it’s the Best Lunch and Dinner category that caught our eye this year because the winner is an easy meal that requires zero prep or clean up. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Trader Joe’s Customer Choice Awards and is none other than TJ’s famous Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice.
This is the first time Butter Chicken is everyone’s top choice and honestly, I don’t know how it wasn’t up there sooner. Trader Joe’s shared the story of how their Chef Kundan Lal Gujral came up with this dish, explaining how Gujral began with chicken being covered in yogurt and then cooked it in a tandoor oven. Gujral wanted to ensure the chicken did not become dry so he added the tomato and onion sauce with butter creating this winning plate. My favorite part? the Indian spices Gujral made sure he did not skimp on. This meal works perfectly for a lazy night or an easy weeknight meal for kids.
Another category winner we would like to discuss is the. They won this year’s Best Overall category and the Best Snack category and honestly, we get it. No matter where I am, if someone has a bag of this I am asking for a bite. It is the ultimate snack for any occasion—a movie night, a picnic in the park, or a day at the beach with friends. I have yet to find someone who dislikes these chips and I would go as far as to say that it has become a staple for Trader Joe’s shoppers.
Other winners worth noting include their seasonal Apple Cider beverage, Goat Cheese, and Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches. Now go add these items to your grocery list and head to the nearest Trader Joe’s.
