Spring is finally almost here, and we can’t be the only ones who are craving a little sunshine at this point in the season. We’re ready for warm and dreamy days of walking past newly-blooming flowers and breathing in the fresh aromas of spring, and it turns out, Starbucks is right there with us. They just announced two of their new drinks for Spring, and if you love lavender, it’s time to start freaking out.
With their newest release, it seems that Starbucks has taken inspiration from what is an indie-coffeeshop favorite: the lavender latte. Starbucks’ new drinks include the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha and the Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte, both of which will be available in the U.S. beginning on March 7. But where other establishments might use a lavender syrup to add this floral flavor to drinks, Starbucks developed its own proprietary lavender powder.
The Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha is one for the Insta feed. It features creamy iced oatmilk matcha in a lovely green hue topped with a sweetened lavender cream cold foam that’s the perfect pastel purple.
The Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte (which is also available hot) starts with Starbucks Blonde Espresso, and includes creamy oatmilk, ice, and lavender. It’s a floral drink with notes of lavender and vanilla, and the smooth blonde espresso adds coffee flavor without overwhelming the lavender.
Lavender isn’t just a pretty garden plant and tasty edible botanical. Lavender has been known to help alleviate anxiety and depression, and is often added to aromatherapy products because of its soothing aroma. But it also contains flavonoids that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Combine the beneficial traits of lavender with the caffeine boost from espresso or matcha, and you’ll be more than ready to face the day with one of Starbucks’ new spring drinks in hand.
