Getting kids to eat anything other than sweets is a daily battle in my house, which is why I’m so thankful for Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman). She just posted a savory twist on the classic Monkey Bread recipe, and it looks so good, I’m sure my kids will love it, too!
In the video posted on Food Network’s YouTube Channel, Drummond walks viewers through her Savory Breakfast Monkey Bread recipe. She begins with an egg mixture, which she whisks in a bowl with some extra ingredients. Once the scrambled eggs are done, she turns off the heat and lets them sit while she works on the bread portion of the recipe.
For this, cut up refrigerated biscuit dough and put it in a bowl. She adds several ingredients, including one she “loves”: everything bagel seasoning. She stirs the biscuits and when they are evenly coated, she drops half of them in the bottom of a bunt pan for an even layer. She adds cheese, scrambled eggs, fried bacon bits, and more. The rest of the biscuits go on top.
It bakes for 40 minutes and sits for 10. It’s the perfect amount of time to drink hot coffee — or to find snacks that your impatient kids will inevitably ask for. Once it’s cooled, flip it over and get ready to serve! Drummond says you can reach in and pull out flaky chunks of the monkey bread, or you can slice into it to make sure you get all the good ingredients.
“When it comes to breakfast, this monkey bread truly is the complete package,” she says. “I think you’re gonna fall in love instantly.” And more importantly, we hope our kids do too!
“That looks good,” one person commented on the recipe video. Another person offered their tweaks: “I’d pass on the hot sauce and pepper jack cheese and use Colby/Monterey cheese instead,” they wrote. That sounds good too!
Drummond’s monkey bread is perfect for weekend mornings, but if you need something quick and easy for busy school days, you could always make your kids some Toad in a Hole! Get Drummond’s full Savory Breakfast Monkey Bread recipe HERE.
