The flowers are blooming, we’re breaking out our Selkies, we’re having garden parties, and you know we’re binge-watching Bridgerton Season 3…and then starting it all over again. Luckily, Trader Joe’s seems to know where our heads are at. They just released a ton of new spring and summer items, and we’re ready to race to the store to stock up so we can throw some sort of fabulous outdoor gathering this weekend. At the top of our list? A new beverage that’s the perfect base for mocktails, mixer for cocktails, seltzer add-in, or drink you can simply serve over ice: it’s Trader Joe’s Blueberry Elderflower Beverage.

Now, it’s foolish to judge a book by its cover, but we can’t be the only ones smitten with the magenta hue of the drink, or its delicate floral label. But more important is what’s inside. Trader Joe’s Blueberry Elderflower drink is simply made with five ingredients: water, sugar, blueberry puree, lime juice, and natural flavors (that being elderflower, of course).

For those who aren’t familiar, elderflower blossoms have been used for thousands of years in different applications, from medical to culinary. The blossoms are extremely fragrant, and when turned into things like elderflower cordial or elderflower liqueur, they have a flavor that’s floral, fruity, and citrusy. It’s not overly flowery, like orange blossom water and rose water can be, especially when paired with something fruity, like blueberry.

Trader Joe’s combo of blueberry purée, lime juice, and elderflower is refreshing and elegant served over ice on a hot day, but you can imagine how versatile it is as a mixer. Mix it with lemonade or limeade, shake it with gin, top a glass of it with some ice-cold sparkling water…or rosé! The possibilities feel endless.

But what if there’s no Trader Joe’s near you? You can easily recreate this drink at home. Blend up some blueberries into a purée and strain, then mix with lime juice, simple syrup, and elderflower cordial or elderflower syrup, adjusting to your personal taste.
