The Pioneer Woman’s Beer Cheese Bread Bowl Is the Best Football Party Snack You Can Bring

Although everyone comes together at game day parties to watch, well, the game, we know some of you are only there for the snacks (it takes one to know one…). And if you want to up your snack game at your next football party gathering, Ree Drummond‘s Beer Cheese recipe is an instant touchdown. It’s savory, creamy, and loaded with flavor, and your fellow partygoers won’t be able to stop hovering around the snack table — they might just end up missing the game entirely.

“It’s by far, one of the most delicious snacks you can serve at any football party, or any party, or any Tuesday night for that matter,” Drummond said in a clip from The Pioneer Woman, posted to Food Network’s Instagram.

Everything starts with the bread bowl (as all recipes should, truthfully). Hollow out a loaf of sourdough, and try to do so as neatly as possible by using a knife. These bread chunks are going to be used for dipping later. Season the bread chunks and the inside of your bread bowl with a bit of olive oil, grated garlic, and red pepper flakes, and top everything with a healthy dose of grated parmesan cheese. Toss the bread bowl and bread chunks into the oven until everything is golden brown.

While everything gets toasty, it’s time to make the beer cheese, which Drummond says, “will change your life in an instant.” The beer cheese base starts with some sauteed onions and garlic, and to that, Drummond adds a half bottle of beer, a bit of milk, and some Dijon mustard for a bit of zest.

Finally, the cheese gets mixed in. Drummond likes to use fontina, cheddar, and mozzarella to give the dip both a bite and creaminess. Season with pepper and red pepper flakes (and salt, if needed). Then, take your bread bowl out of the oven and place the cheese dip right inside — you’re finally ready to eat!

Obviously, the bread bites are a must-have to eat with your beer cheese, but Drummond also likes to put out sliced veggies and pretzel sticks, too. Homemade soft pretzels would also be delicious paired with the cheese, but you can get creative with how you enjoy it.
