You’ve made your list, and you’ve checked it twice — but do you have your holiday centerpiece in place? It can be the piece that ties your Christmas table setting together, but making one doesn’t mean spending five hours in the craft store or complicated assembly once you get home. Here are three simple ideas for making your own holiday table centerpiece, courtesy of Jo Pearson, Michaels’ manager of Where Creativity Happens.
Classy glass
A simple and classy centerpiece is as easy as combining three things, two of which we guarantee you have in your home right now: glass vases, Christmas glass ball ornaments and — the pièce de résistance— battery-operated bullet lights, which Pearson insists are all the rage in Christmas décor. She encourages holiday centerpiece DIYers to get creative with different size/height vases, then fill them with the ornaments and suspend the bullet lights with ribbon. “They last for 12 hours, so they’re perfect for your holiday dinner party,” Pearson says. If your party goes beyond that, just switch out the batteries and keep the festivities going.
Light it up
Pearson also suggests using another in-demand crafty item: waterproof light-up spheres. You need a few glass bowls in various sizes and shapes, some glass gems to toss in the bottom, water, floating candles, single-stem flowers and the waterproof light-up spheres. Now, dim the lights and watch your holiday tablescape light up the party.
Beautifully repurposed
Echo the environmentally friendly way of the world by repurposing some of last year’s Christmas décor. Get your hands on some apothecary-style jars, then weed through your old Christmas stuff. A broken angel ornament may no longer be able to hang from the tree, but she could find a happy home sitting inside a small jar with some holiday confetti.
Let the kids join in, too. Have them fill their jars with their favorite Christmas items, then set them out for display. The best part about this centerpiece: It can be repurposed again next year in a whole new way.
