Tostadas are one of the meals that you can throw together in a pinch, but–when done right–they taste absolutely incredible. To serve this recipe as the ultimate family-style meal, put it on the table al la carte, with each of the parts being offered separately, allowing your eaters to build a tostada after their own liking.
Tostada’s are delicious, filling, and super flexible! Just about any ingredient can be stacked on top, creating a delicious, crunchy treat. While you can purchase pre-cooked tostada shells, it’s easy (and amazingly tasty) to make them yourself at home. Just fry small flour tortillas in vegetable oil until light brown and crispy. Flip and cook the other side, then allow to cool slightly before serving.
Here are a few favorite tostada ingredients, but it’s easy to add or delete any that you love or abhor. The true beauty to tostadas is you can make them any way you like them, every time you cook ’em! Enjoy!

- Shrimp cooked in lime juice & chili powder
- Shredded chicken or taco meat
- White corn, warmed
- Fresh tomatoes, sliced
- Lettuce, shredded
- Cheese, shredded
- Salsa
- Sour Cream
- Fresh jalapenos, sliced
Prepare all ingredients, placing each in a small bowl. Invite your diners to layer and stack their tostadas with their favorite ingredients. Eat by picking up the tostada shell and biting into it like a pizza, or by crackign the shell and folding it in half, then eating it taco-style.
