Check your refrigerators. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a recall Monday on nearly 35,000 lbs. of organic ground beef because of an E. Coli scare.
The California-based First Class Foods is recalling 34,473 lbs of their organic beef and hamburger patties over concern that the meat is infected with E. coli O157:H7, a potentially deadly bacterium that’s known to cause diarrhea, dehydration, kidney failure and even death.
E. Coli ground beef recall: Affected products
No illnesses have been reported in conjunction with the E. Coli scare – the USDA discovered the bacteria during a routine inspection.
The recalled ground beef products include:
- 16-ounce packages of Nature’s Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick.
- 16-ounce packages of Organic Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick sold in singles and packs of three.
- 16-ounce packages of Nature’s Harvest Ground Patty containing four 4-ounce patties.
The affected products were sold between Dec.7 and Dec. 16 in California, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Washington state and Wisconsin and are marked with “EST 18895” and package “dates” of 10341 and 10350.
Consumers with the recalled ground beef are encouraged to return their purchases to the stores or call (888) 843-8016 for more information.
