How to plan a rockin’ American Idol party

by

With the American Idol finale drawing near, it’s time to go all-out in support of of Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery by throwing a fabulous American Idol party. Pull up plenty of seats in front of your TV and watch the sparks fly as the Idol judges praise or pick on the performances.

Let your guests become backseat judges as they rate performances on a 1-10 scale of good or bad with markers and score sheets supplied by you. Better yet, encourage the guests to rate the judges’ evaluations for accuracy, honesty and just plain coolness – since so many of Steven Tyler’s comments are absolutely crazy cool.

After the episode ends, break out the karaoke machine to keep the party going. Those guests who aren’t up for singing can do their best impression of their favorite famous judge.

To add that special touch in support of your favorite performer, hang decorations, serve food and play music inspired by the singers and the towns they came from.

Lauren Alaina

Peachy-keen Georgia sweet-tea party

If you’re a fan of Lauren Alaina – the young and bubbly southern belle from Rossville, Georgia – you absolutely must throw a good, old-fashioned Southern tea party. Brew up some traditional Southern sweet tea — or get fancier with our peach cobbler tea freeze. To provide your guests with a dinner to go along with the show, cook up a fabulous batch of our Southern-style smothered chicken.

Decorations in baby blue (Lauren’s favorite color) accented with overflowing peaches and magnolias work well for an all-girl viewing party. For decorations that are less traditionally “girly,” opt for country-western decorations inspired by the music Lauren likes to sing.

Country-western tracks are definitely a way to go for the after-party – include songs by current country superstars like Faith Hill, Taylor Swift and The Wreckers. If you want to mix up the music selection, consider including several songs by Lauren’s professed idol Miley Cyrus.

Scotty McCreery

Coastal North Carolina barbecue and seafood soirée

Country crooner Scotty McCreery calls Garner, North Carolina, home, which means seafood and barbecue must be on the menu for Scotty supporters. Salt-and-pepper catfish is a local favorite that you can serve with our Deep South marinated slaw. For some of the best barbecue cooked up with that special N.C. twist, use our Carolina country-style ribs recipe.

Scotty is a vocal throwback to those classic country music stars, so classic country-western decorations are definitely appropriate for a “Support Scotty” party.

After the episode ends, take turns emulating Scotty’s sexy-deep bass while singing along to classic tracks by Randy Travis, Garth Brooks and even some Johnny Cash.
