Steak on the grill is a great choice on these hot summer nights. A dry rub makes it even easier. Just a few herbs and spices and you’re steak will be ready to eat in under 30 minutes.
Steak can be a wonderful choice for dinner. Between all the different cuts from ribeye to T-Bone to New York Strip to all the different ways to prepare the meat, you could have steak every night of the week and never have the same thing twice.
But steak can be intimidating; you wanna make sure it’s got a good marinade or dry rub and then there’s the whole how long to cook it debate. I like my steak medium rare. The problem I kept running into though, was how do you cook the steak so that it’s medium rare on the inside and not charred to a crisp on the outside? Turns out it’s pretty easy — keep the flame at medium and make sure to flip it a few times. That way it’ll have a nice crisp outside and be perfectly tender inside. And if you’re in a rush, as I often am, there’s nothing better than a dry rub. Just throw together some of your favorite herbs and spices, rub it all over the meat, grill, and you’ve got yourself a delicious steak that everyone will think you got at a five-star restaurant.
Brown Sugar Steak
Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup paprika
- 1/4 cup Kosher salt
- 1/8 – 1/4 cup ground black pepper (depending on how spicy you like it)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 (8 ounce) steaks
Directions
- Preheat the grill to 450 degrees F.
- Bring the steaks to room temperature.
- Mix together the first five ingredients (through the garlic). Rub and press the sugar mixture all over each steak.
- Coat the grill in olive oil so the steaks won’t stick. Place each steak on the grill and cook until desired doneness, about 5 minutes per side for medium rare. Transfer the steaks to a platter and let sit for five minutes. Serve with your favorite vegetable or salad.
