Long before the apple was a glowing symbol on a laptop lid, a man named John Chapman made apples his business. Chapman was born on September 26, 1774, in Leominster, Massachusetts. He was given the name Johnny Appleseed because he loved to grow apple trees.

Johnny Appleseed was known for supplying apple seeds to pioneers in the Midwest. He sold tress, but he also gave them away. The stories say that he introduced apple trees to states such as Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

Johnny Appleseed passed away in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1845, but his legend lives on over 160 years later. Enjoy these apple recipes in honor of Johnny Appleseed!
