Greek turkey burger

Add a little romance to your Halloween celebration by scheduling a date night with your sweetie complete with costumes and a themed menu.

In college Halloween was no longer about cute costumes and candy. It was about finding some way to make any costume as revealing as possible. That meant even strange things like elephants could be made cute as long as a short skirt was involved. While you may not be heading out to a keg party in a tiny costume this year, you can still have a little fun with your date. Pick a theme and plan your meal and your outfits around it. Since you’ll be indoors with someone you love, a bit of skin showing is encouraged. See how creative you can be by making costumes out of things you have around the house.

A diner themed event is easy, fun and delicious. Throw your hair in a ponytail, put on some Sandra D. style leather pants and find your man a leather coat and a tight white shirt. Serve up a meal of delicious burgers, fries and of course, milk shakes. If you are trying to please a picky eater, create a burger bar with several topping options so burgers can be made exactly the way people like them. For a unique spin on the traditional burger, try this Greek-style turkey burger.

Fact: New Jersey has more diners than any other state and is often called the “diner capital of the world.”

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Burger buns

  • 1 teaspoon of dill

Toppings:

  • Roasted red peppers
  • Sliced tomatoes

Directions:

  1. Add thyme, basil, mustard, olive oil, sea salt and pepper to ground turkey and form into patties. Cook thoroughly on the grill or in the oven.
  2. In a small bowl, mix sour cream, cucumber, feta cheese and dill. Stir together and set aside. The flavors will be better if you mix this in advance, up to 24 hours, and let it sit.
  3. When the burgers are finished, place them on a bun, top with sliced tomatoes, roasted red peppers and a dollop of feta-cucumber sauce.
