Snacks that satisfy

It’s finally football season. Watching the game with your family or hosting a get-together is often lots of fun and doesn’t require too much from the hostess. Along with chairs and a working television, hearty snacks are a must for entertaining on game day. If you’re not sure where to get started with your game day spread, try one of our football favorites.

Sliders

Find inspiration on the menu of almost any local sports bar, and serve up a platter of sliders to your guests. There are numerous variations to choose from, so you can tailor your slider selections around some of your guests’ favorite ingredients. Make the traditional slider with ground beef, or go for something a little different (and completely easy), and make pork or chicken sliders in your slow cooker by cooking the meat on low in your favorite barbecue sauce for six to eight hours.

Warm, soft pretzels

Spanakopita

Spanokopita is a classic Greek dish made with phyllo pastry, spinach and feta, and can be served in one-bite triangles or as a pie. It’s filling enough that it can serve as a meal or a heavy appetizer.

Seven-layer dip

Seven-layer dip is a crowd-pleasing Tex-Mex snack that takes less than 10 minutes to prepare. It doesn’t actually require seven layers, unless you really want to get technical. Start by spreading a layer of refried beans on a serving dish, and then top with layers of cheese, salsa, guacamole, olives, lettuce and sour cream. You can’t go wrong by going with your friends’ and family’s favorite nacho toppings. Serve with tortilla chips or Fritos.
