Celebrate National Peanut Butter Day

Much like apple pie, baseball and Elvis Presley, peanut butter reigns supreme in American hearts. In fact, peanut butter and banana sandwiches were rumored to be one of Elvis’ favorite treats, and peanuts are a standard at baseball stadiums.

Peanut butter has been an integral part of most childhoods since its introduction to the U.S. in 1904. Originally patented in 1884 in Quebec, peanut butter was intended to be a paste used on bad teeth. It was found to be quite a tasty food and instead became a dietary staple in nearly every household.

How much do Americans love peanut butter?

According to the National Peanut Board, Americans consume over 1.5 billion pounds of peanut butter and peanut products every year, and the average American child will eat 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before they graduate from high school. Add that to the nearly $800 million Americans spend each year on peanut butter, and the love is pretty apparent.

What better way to celebrate National Peanut Butter Day than by making your own with a quick and easy peanut butter recipe, and then using it to make one of the following delicious peanut butter treats!
