Due to possible salmonella contamination, the FDA is encouraging families to check their refrigerators for Dole bagged lettuce. If your product matches the description below, toss it in the trash.

Dole Food Co. is recalling 756 cases of bagged salad due to possible salmonella contamination according to the FDA. No illnesses have been reported, but a bag tested positive for salmonella in a random test by the state of New York. The products were distributed to 15 states including Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The product in question is the Dole Seven Lettuces salad mix. The recalled bags of salad are stamped with a use-by date of April 11, 2012, UPC code 71430 01057 and product codes 0577N089112A and 0577N089112B. The product code and use-by date can be found in the upper right-hand corner of the bag. The UPC code is on the back of the package, under the barcode.

The products in question are being removed from store shelves and people who have already purchased them should throw them out. No other products are included in the recall.

Symptoms of salmonella contamination generally start within 72 hours of consumption and can include diarrhea, cramping and nausea. It can be particularly dangerous for those with compromised immune systems, the elderly, pregnant women and infants.
