Grilled steak is a classic dinner choice on warm evenings. But this time around, don’t just grill the meat and serve it up straight; spread a little jam on top for a sweet jolt of flavor.
If you follow my column, you know I attend a regular cooking class at The Depot. While tons of fun, the class usually provides some wonderful inspiration for other dinner ideas. It was at one such class that I came up with these awesome avocado crab cakes. Well, the last class I attended was no different. Listed on the restaurant’s menu was a steak smothered in fig jam and Gorgonzola cheese. Since I’m a big fan of combining salty and sweet things, the dish sounded absolutely heavenly. So much so that I decided to try to make my own version at home. I was right. The combination of flavors was absolutely awesome and so much more interesting than your standard marinated steak. This one’s definitely going into my regular dinner rotation.
