What Vegan Roast to Get This Year?

For the longest time the only option for a vegan on thanksgiving was to load up on the sides.  But comrade, this is the year 2010, you have smorgasboard of main entrees just waiting for you to sink you teeth in, here I will round up the main competitors for you to choose from.

Tofurky– This “bird” has been around for a while but don’t count it out just because it’s not brand spankin’ new.  While the taste and texture of this vegan roast may seem like a relic, it’s still by all means a delicious centerpiece, and what’s more the “Tofurky Feast” comes with my favorite thanksgiving treat, Cranberry-Apple Potato Dumplings, try to eat just one of them, I dare you!

Field Roast – Field Roast actually provides two different vegan roast options, although one is special to just the holidays.  First you have the classic celebration roast, which hands down is one of my favorite dinners any time of the year.  In addition Field Roast is rolling out in mass quantity their Stuffed Hazlenut Cranberry Roast just for the holidays.  Last Christmas my family was able to snag one through an online distro but now these are available at any Whole Foods.  In a battle between Field Roast and Tofurky Field Roast wins hands down both in texture and flavor, however there is a new comer…

Gardein – Gardein has come out with their own seasonal Stuffed Turk’y cutlets.  I must admit that I have yet to try these, but hope to remedy that soon.  However I do have reservations about using these as a centerpiece for thanksgiving considering they’re an item best sautee’d which to me doesn’t have the same feel as something you roast in your oven with your favorite combination of vegetables and juices.
