Delicious presentation of your vegan meals will make them taste better without you having to change a single ingredient. The brain thinks food that looks good must taste good. As you’re planning your summer vegan entertaining events or even your everyday family meals, consider adding gorgeous garnish to give your vegan recipes gourmet appeal. Here are three easy ways to garnish your plates.

3 Gourmet garnishing tips

1. Fresh herbs

The simple addition of a sprig of parsley in the center of an entree or a sprinkling of baby thyme leaves across a plate before serving will give your vegan dinner a bright hit of green color as well as the hint of garden fresh taste. Garnish your chocolate desserts with a fresh mint leaf, set a sprig of fresh cilantro atop gazpacho, or shred basil and scatter it over your pasta dishes.

2. Tomato rose

You don’t need to go to culinary school to make a tomato rose. Use a very sharp small knife to peel a continuous 1/2-inch to 1-inch thick strip from around a tomato (only remove the peel and not the flesh). Then lay the strip down and beginning at one end, roll the strip into a rose. Set the rose on the plate and set a fresh herb leaf underneath to mimic a rose leaf. The eye-catching red hue of the tomato roses makes this garnish a perfect complement to tofu, white or brown rice, and other vegan meals that don’t boast much color.

3. Strawberry fan

Berries alone are ideal garnish because of their brilliant colors, but if you want to give your dish a professional look, turn strawberries into fans and brush with a sweet glaze. If you’ve got large strawberries, even one strawberry fan is enough for a dinner or dessert garnish. Wash whole strawberries (with leaves attached) and pat dry. Use a small sharp knife to slice strawberry lengthwise from the bottom almost to the stem end. Do not cut all the way through the top. Set strawberry on the plate and gently separate slices into a fan. Brush with warm strawberry preserves or another sweet glaze.

Simply get creative with your herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables and give your everyday vegan recipes a gourmet appearance with the easy addition of an edible garnish.
