We talked with Dr Martha Howard, a holistic practitioner with Chicago Healers about the damage sunscreen can do and healthier alternatives for sun protection.

Sunscreen as “gender bender”?

As you’re slathering on SPF30 before you head into the sun, you’re likely thinking what a beneficial move it is to prevent skin cancer. However, a study conducted at the University of Switzerland shows that chemicals in sunscreens have high estrogenic activity. Dr Howard warns that chemical estrogens are “gender benders” and can put you at risk for reproductive system health issues.

We’re suffering from chemical warfare

According to Dr Howard, a study done at Tulane found that combinations of the estrogenic chemicals in sunscreen and other environmental chemicals, like PCBs and DDT, are more harmful than single chemicals. We’re assaulting our bodies and don’t even realize it!

She recommends: Desert Essence Organics Age Reversal Mineral Sunscreen, MyChelle Sun Shield, and California Baby SPF 30+ No Fragrance Sunscreen.
