Read the labels of most skincare and cosmetic products and you find a long list of ingredients that sound more like a science experiment than something you want to put on your skin. In contrast, vegan beauty products, such as the suki skincare line, are made with plant-derived ingredients that at least sound familiar. We interviewed Suki Kramer, founder of suki skincare, what inspired her to create her green beauty brand and what makes suki unique.

We interviewed Suki Kramer, founder of suki skincare, what inspired her to create her green beauty brand and what makes suki unique.
Miso Vegan: What was your inspiration for creating the suki skincare line?
Suki Kramer: All my life, I suffered from sensitive skin issues that were then aggravated by every single skincare line that I tried. After countless visits to the dermatologist and experimenting with many recommendations from so called “beauty experts,” I arrived at a startling realization: almost every brand touts effective, healthy products, but few actually deliver on their promises. Frustrated, I began creating my own skincare concoctions from natural ingredients that I pulled right from my kitchen. Using ingredients like natural sugar and lemon grass extract, I developed an exfoliating cleanser. My skin loved it! All of a sudden, my complexion was fresh, vital and restored. After seeing the effective results taking place on my very own (previously unresponsive) skin, I realized that others must also be looking for a simple solution they could feel good about using too. To this day, we use a high percentage of incredible organic botanicals and food-grade ingredients to deliver powerfully nutrient enriched skincare. Products like our award winning foaming cleanser contains gentle alpha hydroxyl acid (natural sugar), rice flour (organic non-gmo rice) & citric acid (organic lemongrass) to resurface the skin, unclog pores and deeply exfoliate for a renewed complexion. In today’s saturated beauty market, the ingredients you chose to put on your skin make all the difference!
Miso Vegan: What makes suki unique compared to other vegan beauty products?
Suki Kramer: Not all beauty lines are created equal! At suki, we strive to define beauty for ourselves, on our own terms and work toward an ongoing acceptance and responsibility as we evolve. With this commitment, truly knowing and understanding the purpose of each ingredient used is vital and something we encourage our consumers to understand. So, it’s important to me that our products are formulated with a mix of “safe” skincare practices and the latest cutting edge technology available. We use incredibly high performance ingredients and extract the most potent parts of each botanicals, so our powerful formulations are nearly unmatched by our competitors. Our creations are clinically proven with 100 percent pure bases to ensure the overall lasting health and wellbeing of skin. We hand select all of our raw materials and created a proprietary biotanic concentrate for our products that is unmatched in the industry — the highly potent base is unique to suki. This formulation process stands alone in comparison to any other brands, period.
Miso Vegan: What makes suki an eco-friendly skincare line?
Suki Kramer: Our products are free of sulfates, parabens, fragrance and other synthetics. Instead, we create our clinically proven blends just as I created my very first product – with simple, understandable ingredients that you can pronounce. In fact, you’re likely to have quite a few in your cabinets, refrigerator or even garden. Products like our concentrated balancing toner contain a super potent dose of antioxidant-rich vitamin c, refreshing lavender, skin-soothing chamomile and redness reducing aloe-vera to naturally restore skin’s pH level. No fillers, just the good stuff: safe, simple, easy and effective. Each of our formulas is made from 100 percent high performance, natural ingredients that work synergistically with the body’s natural biological progression. For example, salicylic acid is the active substance in white willow bark that reduces inflammation. We have our natural salicylic acid precisely isolated and refined to achieve a specific potency for effectively targeting, treating and delivering high performance skincare results.
Miso Vegan: Can you elaborate on your eco-policies?
Suki Kramer: We hold true to a strict environmental policy. All of our products are safe for pregnant women, nursing moms and even babies. Whenever possible, we source free-trade, organic botanicals for our cruelty free, ingredient focused line. We make all of our products by hand to lessen our carbon footprint. Even our glass packaging ensures a healthier planet. No toxins are used or utilized in ANY of our products; right down to our biodegradable and vegetable based ink, we are committed to sustainability, responsibility and a cleaner tomorrow for generations to come.
Miso Vegan: What is the best approach for readers to take in choosing suki products for their skin?
Suki Kramer: It’s not just about achieving beauty, it’s about being responsible and educated with the products you choose! Our philosophy of truth skindeep exposes the authentic purpose of every single ingredients we use to our conscientious consumers. It’s vital, especially during this day in age where consumers face a flooded beauty marketplace. We have nothing to hide. Our organic innovation lab guides each formulation through every step of the process, and we are always ready and willing to answer any questions from our consumers. The ingredients we choose are basic, understandable and always natural. But it’s not just about being natural, at suki, we take it a step further. In addition to being synthetic free, we take accountability for our products. We create responsible formulations with simple, transparent ingredients and continually share that information with our consumers.
Miso Vegan: What other health and beauty tips can you share for vegans?
Suki Kramer: It’s important to stay educated about your beauty products. Making the natural choice doesn’t just mean choosing organic or going vegan. It’s the adaptation of an eco-responsible lifestyle. Knowing your beauty is accepting, nurturing and expressing our authentic selves. We create formulas that support vitality, strength and good health. Become an educated consumer to ensure a practical awareness with the products you choose. After all, it isn’t just food that we eat that affects us, skin is the largest organ and constantly absorbs what it is exposed to. Arm yourself with enough information to make responsible decisions and embrace an educated lifestyle in doing so. And know your skin inside and out. As we head into autumn, skin has a tendency to show signs of dryness. To prevent any signs of premature aging, it’s vital that you balance your skin with a clean, rich and breathable moisturizer. For example, created the pure facial moisture – nourishing to target dry spots with a high concentration of beta carotene, pro-vitamin A, omega oils and organic rosehip to restore skin and lock in moisture. Every choice we make affects our skin in some way.
