Every year, the flowers bloom, a new iPhone is released — and Lay’s releases wacky new flavors.
Last year, shelves were stocked with Crispy Taco, Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese and Fried Green Tomato. Oh, and who could forget Southern Biscuits and Gravy and Chicken & Waffles? (They can forever keep those Ketchup-flavored chips. Never again.)
This year, though, Lay’s is kicking its launch up a notch: They’re releasing the most new chip flavors ever introduced by the brand at one time. The eight new regionally inspired flavors represent every part of the good ole US of A. Lay’s also has celebrations scheduled across the nation to help introduce the flavors to the regions they’re most inspired by.
We have to give it up to the Lay’s team. They hit the nail on the head with this batch, and this time around, you’re going to want to try every single one.
Let’s introduce the new cast, from West Coast to East Coast.
Thai Sweet Chili
In the Pacific Northwest, home of the most hardcore food truck scene you'll likely ever see, please welcome Thai Sweet Chili — with its perfect balance of sweet and heat.
To celebrate, Food Network and My Drunk Kitchen host Hannah Hart will attend the annual Bite of Seattle food festival on July 20 to help introduce the flavor.
Chile con Queso
Inspired by flavors from the Southwest, we have Chile con Queso, which infuses Tex-Mex and cheesy flavors. Hit up the Houston Food Fest on Aug. 18 to help celebrate the flavor.
Fried Pickles with Ranch
Any Midwesterners in the house? Your flavor is inspired by — yep — state fairs. It’s called Fried Pickles with Ranch, and the food celebration will take place at the Missouri State Fair from Aug. 16 through 18, again with Hannah Hart ringing in the new chips on Aug. 16.
Deep Dish Pizza
To represent the Heartland, you can’t go wrong with a deep-dish pizza-flavored bag of Lay’s. According to a press release via email, the flavor is inspired by the famous Giordano's pizza recipe. Head to the Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois, on Aug. 11 for the celebration.
Cajun Spice
We've arrived at one of our favorite places, the Central Gulf, home of Louisiana — and you'd better believe Lay's chose Cajun Spice to represent the region.
This features prominent flavors found in Southern staples like jambalaya and blackened Cajun chicken, and the flavor celebration will take place at the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival from Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.
New England Lobster Roll
Up in the Northeast, Lay’s chose New England Lobster Roll (of course), boasting flavors of fresh lobsters served on a buttery grilled roll. Join Hart at the Maine Lobster Festival on Aug. 2 to help celebrate.
Pimento Cheese
Two more, people! We're almost there!
And, finally, for the Southeast, Lay’s chose Pimento Cheese. The celebration will take place at the Shrimp & Grits Festival from Sept. 14 through 16.Chesapeake Bay Crab Spice
In the Mid-Atlantic, we have Chesapeake Bay Crab Spice. Head to the Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival on Aug. 18 to help celebrate.
