5. Stella-battered apple and Gruyère grilled cheese recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter for skillet
  • 4 slices sourdough bread (or any other bread that you like)
  • 1 cup Stella Artois beer
  • 1/8 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 of any sweet, crunchy apple (Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala or Jonagold) thinly sliced using a mandolin slicer
  • 2 eggs

Directions:

  1. In a large shallow bowl, whisk eggs, beer, flour, salt and chili powder.
  2. Dip 1 slice of bread into the batter on both sides, hold until batter absorbs into bread.
  3. Let excess batter drain off into bowl.
  4. Move bread slice to separate plate and top with Gruyère and apple slices.
  5. Repeat batter dipping with second slice of bread and top sandwich to complete.
  6. In large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  7. Place sandwich in middle of skillet and let cook on each side for 3 to 4 minutes or until it reaches a crispy, golden brown on the outside and a melted-cheese center.
