3. Red velvet waffles and fried chicken recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk (or 2 cups milk with 2 tablespoons vinegar)
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon red liquid food coloring
  • Prepared fried chicken

Directions:

  1. Heat the waffle iron.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt to combine.
  3. In a separate large bowl, combine the melted butter, cocoa, red food coloring and sugar.
  4. Whisk in the egg yolks and buttermilk.
  5. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until moistened (the batter should be slightly lumpy).
  6. Spray the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray, or brush it with melted butter.
  7. Cook the waffles according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  8. The waffle is done when there is no more steam.
  9. On a plate, place 1/2 the waffle, your fried chicken top, and then the other waffle half on top of that.
