3. Red velvet waffles and fried chicken recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups buttermilk (or 2 cups milk with 2 tablespoons vinegar)
- 1-1/2 tablespoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon red liquid food coloring
- Prepared fried chicken
Directions:
- Heat the waffle iron.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt to combine.
- In a separate large bowl, combine the melted butter, cocoa, red food coloring and sugar.
- Whisk in the egg yolks and buttermilk.
- Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until moistened (the batter should be slightly lumpy).
- Spray the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray, or brush it with melted butter.
- Cook the waffles according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- The waffle is done when there is no more steam.
- On a plate, place 1/2 the waffle, your fried chicken top, and then the other waffle half on top of that.
