Next time you host a get-together at your home, pass on the chips and dip, and instead, entice your guests with your own party mix!
Toasted sesame mix
Makes approximately 10 cups
Ingredients:
- 3 cups shredded wheat square-type cereal
- 3 cups sesame sticks
- 3 cups mini pretzel twists
- 1 cup of your favourite nuts
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.
- Mix the cereal, sesame sticks, pretzels and nuts in a large bowl.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and melted butter.
- Slowly pour the honey mixture into the cereal mixture. Stir until it is evenly coated.
- Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds into the mixture while stirring to blend it evenly.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone baking mat.
- Spread the mixture onto the baking sheet, and bake for 40–50 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cool before serving.
Popcorn mix
Makes approximately 10 cups
Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1-1/2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 cups shredded wheat square-type cereal
- 1 cup mini pretzel twists
- 1 cup almonds
- 6 cups air-popped or plain popcorn
- 1 tablespoon kosher or sea salt, or to taste
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.
- Mix the soy sauce, honey, melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and chili powder in a small bowl.
- In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, almonds and popcorn.
- Drizzle the liquid mixture over the cereal mix while blending it thoroughly.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Spread the cereal mixture onto the baking sheet, sprinkle with the kosher salt, stir, then sprinkle with additional salt as desired.
- Bake for approximately 40–50 minutes or until the mixture is almost dry. Stir occasionally.
- Cool before serving.
Spiced mixed nuts
Makes approximately 2 cups
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 cups mixture of unsalted almonds, pecans and cashews
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
Directions:
- Preheat the over to 350 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, mix the honey, pepper, paprika, cayenne and cumin.
- Add the nuts to the honey mixture, and toss well to coat.
- Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
- Spread the nuts evenly onto the baking sheet, and bake for approximately 10 minutes.
- Remove the nuts from the oven, sprinkle them with salt, stir, then return them to the oven for an additional 5–10 minutes or until they are toasted and fragrant.
- Cool before serving.
