Friday’s Fashion Fails: Elizabeth Banks and Florence Welch

Oops…even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We’re telling you why Elizabeth Banks and Florence Welch‘s Met Gala fashions fell short in our new weekly feature. Learn from the stars’ sartorial slip ups!

Elizabeth Banks

The Met Gala is basically the Oscars of fashion and the red carpet never fails to bring the crazy couture. Check out Elizabeth Banks, who still seems to be channeling her Effie Trinket character from TheHunger Games in this over-the-top creation by Mary Katrantzou.

“I really am inspired by her sartorial choices,” Elizabeth recently told E! News about playing Effie, who favors anything bright and wild. “My wardrobe used to be all black all the time, but now I add colors.”

We’re all for adding colors and changing it up, Elizabeth, but you’ve gone way overboard. This is a total print and peplum overload!

Between the mismatched patterns, peplum skirt, structured shoulders and satin belt, it’s hurting our eyes.

The final verdict? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Try one trend at a time! This gown is far too busy and should have stayed in the Capitol closet, not at the Costume Institute Gala.

Florence Welch

We just adore Florence’s angelic voice when she sings with Florence + The Machine, but her fashion hit a seriously sour note at the Met Gala. The fiery singer wore an Alexander McQueen creation for the Vogue sponsored red carpet soiree, but Flo really looked like she belonged on top of a wedding cake in this multi-tiered mess.

All of the fabric and layers remind us of something you’d use to dust your floors and appear to be adorned with white bits resembling cotton balls. Fashion shouldn’t make you think of cleaning your house or your ears!

And how in the world can she sit down in that dress? It must have taken an army to unzip her in and out of this white hot mess.

The final verdict? Florence should check out fellow attendee Cate Blanchett, who also wore McQueen but managed to look completely chic and understatedly elegant. Sometimes less is really more!
