MP3 player and headphones
“Working out can be a difficult and dreaded task,” says Ryan Read, personal trainer at Thrive Specialized Training. “One of the best ways to keep adrenaline high and to stay motivated is by listening to music.”
Apple makes several music players that are great for working out. Choose something compact or handheld for as little as $49.
Comfortable shoes
“The secret to getting yourself to the gym isn’t about bringing a workout buddy — it’s about having the right gear that will allow you to enjoy working out,” says Read.
Read recommends finding a shoe that fits your style but is also supportive and secure.
“Wearing improper workout shoes won’t just make working out difficult, but it can also damage muscles and ligaments over time, resulting in injury,” he says.
Easy Spirit offers a variety of footwear that’s perfect for light activity. The popular e360 collection offers comfort and affordability in one shoe. Add a pair to your spring workout wardrobe for under $80.
Activity tracker
The idea of wearing something to track your fitness activity in everyday life isn’t new. Many gadgets are great for tracking steps or workouts but none compare to Nike+ FuelBand. This modern device is one of the hottest products for gym addicts this spring. From monitoring the calories you burn to the oxygen you’re taking in, the Fuelband will help you do it all for under $170.
Proper clothing
“Without the proper workout apparel both mobility and flexibility are impacted,” says Read. “Shop around for clothing that stretches easily and is comfortable, without constraining your movements.”
Many stores carry fitness lines, including Target and Forever 21 who offer fashion-forward tops, pants and other workout apparel that are affordable, making them a great addition to any workout wardrobe.
