Named as a “new thought leader” by none other than Oprah Winfrey herself, Gabrielle Bernstein teaches her students spirit-based principles, meditations and practical “in-the-moment” tools to help combat common problems such as addiction, anxiety, burnout and resentment.
SheKnows recently had the chance to catch motivational speaker, life coach and New York Times best-selling author in action during her “Miracles Now” workshop at the Wanderlust Yoga Festival in Bondville, Vermont.
Drawing from her own personal struggles and addictions, Gabby knows firsthand how difficult life can sometimes be. During her two-hour workshop at Wanderlust, Gabby spoke of her past experiences to help motivate and inspire students as she led them through Kundalini-inspiredmeditation exercises to calm the mind, relieve stress and unleash their most powerful presence — complete with cheering, chanting and lots of om-ing!
Her advice was simple:
Find your pulse, find your peace
“Meditation can be as simple as finding your pulse,” Gabby said. “This simple tool from my new book, Miracles Now, is very easy for meditation newbies. It improves your concentration and brings calm to even the most scattered mind.”
Step 1: Sit comfortably, cross-legged on the floor.
Step 2: Lightly close your eyes and focus on the space between your eyebrows (the third-eye point).
Step 3: Place the four fingers of your right hand on your left wrist and feel your pulse. Keep your fingers in a straight line, lightly pressing on the wrist so you can feel your pulse in each fingertip.
Step 4: On each beat of your pulse, repeat the words “Sat Nam” (meaning “truth identified”) silently to yourself.
This meditation can be done anywhere at any time to experience great benefits in just one minute. Practice it daily to develop your intuition and calm your mind.
The four finger method
These four steps will help you deal with all kinds of emotions and release resentment fast.
“This technique is a fantastic Kundalini meditation that’s fast, simple and effective,” Gabby said.
Step 1: Gently press your thumb against your index finger, then your middle finger, then your ring finger, then your pinkie finger.
Step 2: As you touch each finger, repeat the following words:
- When you touch your index finger, say: PEACE
- When you touch your middle finger, say: BEGINS
- When you touch your ring finger, say: WITH
- When you touch your pinkie finger, say: ME
Step 3: Breathe deeply as you say each word, going as slow or fast as you’d like. Use this technique in line at the bank, under the desk in your office or in the middle of a fight with your partner.
