t It’s finally summer and your family is dying to take a vacation. Where do you go? What do you do? Kids are notorious for short attention spans and non-stop energy, which is why lounging by the pool for hours is no longer a relaxing option. Do your family a favor, plan a fun and active vacation. Force your spouse and kids to leave the electronics at home and make memories that will last a lifetime. Here are ways to create an active, fun-filled vacation.
Visit nearby state and national parks
t State and national parks are an affordable way to experience unbeatable views and hiking trails. Make memories by finding something unique, whether it’s a cave, a cliff-top view, or hiking to the peak of a mountain. Pack a picnic lunch and find a fun location to set up and enjoy the scenery.
Try something new
t You can take a surf lesson, go kayaking or paddleboarding, find a place to go zip lining or rent equipment and go snorkeling. In Maui, there are several companies that lead sunrise downhill bike tours of Haleakala Volcano.
Take sunrise or sunset yoga
t A great way to bring peace and fitness to your vacation is to find a local outdoor yoga class and take sunrise or sunset yoga.
Go to zoos and local attractions
t Skip the tram passes and taxis and walk around the zoo or local tourist attractions. You’ll see more this way and you’ll burn off some energy while enjoying the fun.
Rent bikes
t Renting bikes can be a fun way to get around your destination. You can quickly and easily tour downtown, visit local parks or ride along the boardwalk. Be sure to rent and wear helmets and obey traffic laws. A fast way to ruin your vacation is a bike accident.
t If you or your kids are always on the phone, make a family rule they can only be used at the end of the day. Try to encourage taking pictures on a real camera and being less concerned about posting to social media and more focused on the family and the memories you’re creating. Most importantly, have fun and keep hydrated.
