10 Ways to fight fatigue

While you prepare for the upcoming winter and holidays, you are faced with shorter, colder days that can drain your energy. This lack of energy can sometimes lead to what is known as the “winter blues,” which can have further consequences on your mental and physical health. Here are some ways you can combat fatigue this winter.

Sleep

It is often noted that adults should get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night, and this becomes extra important in winter. It is already difficult to leave a warm bed for the cold outside, so ensure that you get enough sleep to have the energy to face the cold days.

Take supplemental vitamins

If you aren’t getting the necessary amounts of certain vitamins in your diet, it may be time to consider taking supplemental vitamins. Health Canada, for example, stresses the importance of vitamin D often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin” for the overall maintenance of bone health. Besides giving your immune system a boost, taking vitamins will improve your overall health, which is important during the flu and cold season.

Drink up

Dehydration leads to fatigue, so to help combat fatigue, ensure that you are drinking enough water to stay well hydrated. Other liquids that could count towards your intake could be herbal teas and low sugar content juices.
