Be a great first date

When you’re single and looking for love, you go on a lot of first dates. They are often awkward and stressful, but they don’t have to be. Here’s how you can contribute by being a great first date yourself.

You may have to kiss many frogs before you meet your Prince Charming. That means a whole lot of first dates. And more often than not, first dates are stressful and awkward affairs. But you can help make them more enjoyable simply by being a great first date. What can you contribute to make that first meeting go more smoothly? Read on.

Date often

Not only will you increase your chances of meeting the right guy, but by going on dates frequently, you’ll develop an ease and confidence that’ll help put your date at ease more than if you’re a nervous wreck. That said, don’t roll out a dating persona either, rattling off your likes and dislikes, what you’re looking for in a guy, etc. It’s important to be genuine.

Be flexible

Of course, feel free to voice your opinion, but don’t be so rigid that any little thing puts you in a sour mood. Movie you wanted to see sold out? Just see something else that’s playing. Dinner reservation lost somehow by the restaurant? Don’t complain about it all night;  just grab a drink nearby, and a table will open up soon. Don’t fret over minor hiccups.

Suggest doing something interesting to both of you

Better than going to a movie or just dinner is to plan to do something you’re both passionate about. It’ll help break the ice if you’re involved in an activity you both enjoy, taking off the constant pressure to make conversation and getting to know each other. If you both adore museums, go to one and then grab a drink or brunch, for example. Don’t pretend to like an activity if you are a not a fan; this will reveal itself immediately. You need to be honest.

Avoid going to the symphony even if you both adore this, because you won’t be able to chat at all. If you do plan to go to such a show, be sure to also go for a coffee so you have some time to get to know each other a little better. You may, however, want to avoid playing a sport together — competing against each other adds another stressful element to an already potentially stressful situation.
