Nobody likes to feel bloated, but it happens to the best of us. Instead of reaching for pills, why not try something a little more natural? Here’s our roundup of some tricks for treating bloating.
Sip some camomile or peppermint tea
Teas have always been found to have a soothing effect on the human body. Camomile tea is an effective way to treat gas problems in general, so drink it after your meal if you feel some discomfort. Peppermint is also an old remedy for stomach ailments, so if you’re not a big fan of camomile, try peppermint tea.
Load up on potassium-rich foods
When you’re bloated, things are a little out of whack in your body. Chewing on some potassium-rich foods will help, as it will prompt your kidneys to release more sodium. Some wonderful potassium-filled fruits and vegetables include bananas, potatoes, tomatoes and mangos. Juices work just as well, but remember that they are also high in sugar.

Down some fennel seeds or turmeric
Fennel seeds are great for alleviating stomach pain and bloating. Just brew half a teaspoon of fennel seeds with one cup of water when you feel discomfort. Another little helper is turmeric. This spice (a plant from the ginger family) is commonly used in curries and has been found to ease stomach discomfort. Plus it tastes great.
Stay hydrated
This might sound masochistic, but when you feel like a blimp, drink water. Contrary to popular belief, it will not make you explode. Drinking water keeps your digestive system going, cleanses your body and helps restore your sodium balance. Stay away from highly acidic or carbonated drinks, as these will only exacerbate the situation.

Chew some licorice
Black licorice root, to be precise, has been known to treat bloating since the days of yore. It’s incredible at aiding water retention and has natural diuretic properties. You can find it at most health food stores in supplement form, but if you’re really pressed for it, just chew some black licorice and hope for the best.
