The obsessive desire to be beautiful is one we so often associate with women that we sometimes fail to remember men are also victims of society’s insane, unattainable beauty standards. For 34-year-old Justin Jedlica, that means turning himself into a human Ken doll. This young man is so desperate to be “flawless” that he recently risked blindness in his latest quest for plastic perfection.
You know those little veins that some of us have on our foreheads — the ones that become more prominent when we laugh or are angry? Beauties like Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts have them. You probably wouldn’t even notice them unless some sad, bitter jerk pointed them out to you. Well, Jedlica says he was willing to risk blindness in order to make sure they were forever erased from this face.
Jedlica says he had three veins in his forehead that really bugged him, so he had them “stripped and ablated.” His was a big-risk procedure because, as he explains, “there was a possibility I could go blind as they needed to go in through the insides of my eyelids in order to burn the veins off.”
It just doesn’t feel right that a human being can willingly have a part of his body as important as a vein “burned” off. Is anyone else out there in complete shock that a licensed surgeon would agree to go through with this? Apparently, several surgeons — including Dr. Terry Dubrow from Botched — refused to perform the operation, but Jedlica was persistent. And it only takes one.
Jedlica says he has a long way to go before achieving his goal of being “100 percent plastic,” and that he also recently designed and handcrafted his own back implants so that he could ensure his back looks just like Ken’s.

I don’t even know where to begin here. It’s not in me to berate this man, the same way I don’t feel anger toward women who get a lot of plastic surgery in order to look like Barbies or blow-up dolls.
I feel for this guy. I can’t imagine the negative thoughts that must constantly race through his brain. Is there ever a morning he wakes up and feels good about himself, or is some percentage of his time always focused on what could be better?
Obviously, I don’t personally know Jedlica and could be totally off (and hope I am), but I imagine the pain he might feel as similar to that experienced by millions of women who starve themselves or have disordered eating patterns. It’s sad to think of anyone desperately trying to live up to an impossible standard when he’s already “perfect,” insofar as that he seems healthy, and there are so many other beautiful things in life to focus on.
