So often men are in charge of romance, whether it’s flowers or organising dates. However, it’s time we spoil our men with moments that will thrill them — and there won’t be a soppy rom-com movie in sight!
Just like any relationship, we have to work at the one we have with our husbands and boyfriends. However, it doesn’t have to be hard work — it should be about flirting, laughing, smiling and even that meaningful silence as you sit together.
Here are 10 great ways you can show your guy that you love him and, importantly, that you love doing some of those blokey things that interest him!
The boy’s fried brunch
With a little planning ahead, you can strategise a way to make a lazy Sunday morning all about him.
Famous blogger Ree Drummond, of The Pioneer Woman, loves cooking for her husband, including this breakfast burrito — a perfect man-style start to the day that incorporates spices with sausage meat and eggs.
Otherwise, go the great fry up way and put on a smorgasbord breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausages, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and thick slices of bread.
Glamping in the wild
Perhaps your guy loves camping but you’re not quite up for the swag on the ground experience. Why not consider the latest weekend away trend of “glamping” (glamour camping)? Pre-established tents are nestled in the bush and include beds and bathrooms and some even have romantic chandeliers!
Try these for size:
- Allure Boutique Villas, Stanthorpe, Queensland
- Paperbark Camp, Jervis Bay, New South Wales
- Wilderness Retreats, (various locations), Victoria
- Gawler Ranges Wilderness Safaris, South Australia
- Sal Salis, Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
His favourite movie night
Sure, you probably have nights in front of the TV all the time. Except, how about this time you plan ahead to create a guy-themed night he’ll enjoy?
Move the furniture aside, set up a big lounging area with pillows, blankets and maybe even a cooler filled with beer. Then, have your player stocked with his favourite movies, such as the Rambo collection, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or a comedy collection from Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler.
The man’s dinner
If you’re on a budget but still want to spoil your guy, then arrange to create his favourite meal and make it something that is easy for you to do.
A slow cooker meal is perfect if you’re planning a Friday date night. Just set it up in the morning and then come home to a delicious meal such as slow cooked lamb shanks or slow cooked beef enchiladas.

Hit the water, Captain!
With so many beautiful waterways all around our country, you really don’t need much of an excuse to hit the water.
So pack some sunblock and a hat and get your loved one ready for a day out in the sun and surf. Many water-side cities and towns have tourist attractions that are sure to tantalise you both: Consider booking in for whale watching, a chartered fishing experience, a deluxe catamaran tour or the classic sunset cruise with wine.
The great beer tour
Put your prejudices about beer aside and take your partner out for a day filled with beer tasting at your local brewery. There are many major and boutique breweries around Australia that offer something for every palate, including yours!
From the Carlton & United Brewery on the Gold Coast to the Little Creatures Brewery in Perth, you’re sure to find a beer stop close to home.
His road trip
If you’re the kind of couple who likes to stretch your legs on a long open road, then consider planning a road trip flavoured with all the things he likes.
Pick a day or overnight destination that he likes and then fill the car with all of his favourite road trip treats (chips, candy etc) or plan pit-stops along the way where you’ll stop to get his favourite meat pie, have lunch at a town pub or pause with a picnic.
Don’t forget to also line up his favourite tunes so that he’s rocking out while cruising.
A new sport
If your guy is the sporty type, register yourselves for a new outdoor activity that you’ve never tried before.
One of the latest trends is Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boarding — giving you an opportunity to play in the water, laugh at each other and then laze in the sun afterwards.
Don’t just look at private lessons, you’ll be surprised at what your local council might offer as they try to encourage the population to get moving outside.

The home city (naughty night) stay
Perhaps you might like to make the most of your own city? Create a naughty night for the two of you by booking a stay at a local hotel. However, before checking in, go shopping together for your favourite cheese platter, wine or beers, and then ask him to visit a lingerie or adult store with you where he can pick out something risqué!
He’ll be dying to check into that hotel and have a fabulous night with you.
The big ticket date
If you’ve got the cash and want to splurge on something special for your guy, then you can organise a day or night event that he’ll love to attend.
Perhaps there’s a big footy match coming up, a comedy act he’s always wanted to see or you might want to get dressed up for a night at a fancy restaurant or casino.
Just make sure whatever you organise is a little above a normal night out for the two of you.
