The mother of a University of California, San Diego student is furious this week after learning that her daughter, a student at the school, must get naked in order to pass her class on performance art.
The 20 students all get naked with their teacher in a dark room “lit only by candlelight” and allegedly they know this from the beginning. Say what?!
The class is all about the “erotic self,” but this woman apparently didn’t know what was required and is terrified to go through with it and also terrified to fail. See below:
Seems insane, right? I went to four years of college, two years of grad school, and have lived many years out in the “real world” and have never once been told that in order to get a good grade, I must be nude. This is weird. And it is wrong.

If we are to get in touch with our erotic selves, isn’t that all about personal comfort? Isn’t it all about what we feel is right when it comes to our bodies and our choices? Nothing is “erotic” when it is forced or comes at the expense of our comfort and happiness.
The class is all about performance art and there is something to be said for knowing what is expected and not taking the class if you can’t do that. On the other hand, mistakes happen. Should this woman really fail her class for being unwilling to do something that most people in the world would heartily dismiss as “ooky?”

We own our own sexuality and nudity. Yes, there can be nudity without sex, but not wanting to share our bodies with others doesn’t make us prudes. We all have the right to our own comfort levels.
Hopefully the professor of this class is able to come up with some kind of alternative for this woman.
