In an age where an ever-increasing amount of interaction with others is carried out screen-to-screen rather than face-to-face, it’s lovely to hear a story of someone who went to a little more effort when asking a girl out on a date.

University of Southampton student Alfonso did use modern technology to ask Naomi Lucking out for coffee — but only insofar as he drew an iPhone screen and a WhatsApp message on the piece of paper he passed her in the library.
It’s the perfect combination of tech and good old-fashioned romantic tradition. And Alfonso clearly wanted to get it just right — down to the camera and microphone icons used on the app.

“It only took me two minutes to draw it,” he told the Daily Mail. “And then I just handed it over to her. That is the hardest part because you don’t know how it is going to go.”
Alas, despite giving her fellow student “10 out of 10 for creativity,” Naomi didn’t take Alfonso up on his offer of a date. However his creative pick-up technique has gone viral and he has been flooded with offers from women across the world.
“A girl called me and said ‘what you did is really great. I will definitely go for a coffee with you,'” he revealed. “Women have been calling from Belgium, Nottingham and Switzerland.”
