Cheese may be the cure to cancer after all

We all have always known that cheese is the greatest thing in the world. Now, it turns out that cheese may actually cure cancer. You’re welcome.

According to a new study by the University of Michigan, nisin — something found in cheese like cheddar, Brie, and Camembert — reduced tumor size in mice. The study was published by the Journal of Applied Microbiology. It seems the preservative killed between 70 and 80 percent of cancer cells in nine weeks. Wow.

Now, I know we see studies like this (and their opposite) every day, but this one actually feels promising. Why? Because cheese. Duh.

Now, obviously, researchers are not suggesting we all go eat entire wheels of cheese three times a day. This isn’t medicine and the study is still very preliminary. But what it does mean is that cheese, something many people on the trendy paleo diet shy away from, might actually be good for us. And maybe we could also take it as a lesson that cutting any food group, be it dairy or carbs, is actually not a great idea.

Every food has its purpose. I hate to say that to vegans and gluten-free bandwagoners (as in: Not people suffering from actual Celiac), but it’s a fact. You want to be healthy? Eat a balanced diet. It’s that simple.

The jury is still out on whether or not this study about cheese has any merit. But one thing we know for sure: all foods have value. So eat what you want in moderation and see your health improve. Viva la France.
