In a perfect world, people with differing political beliefs could get along. Maybe they could even fall in love. Sadly,we don’t live in that world. And in the real world, having sex with someone who has the opposite political beliefs from myself sounds about as appealing as walking on my knees through a pile of broken glass. This is why the viral movement #VoteTrumpGetDumped is so hilarious and appealing.
More: Why your first year of marriage won’t be rainbows and butterflies
Started by a married couple in Ohio a couple weeks ago who were sick of Trump’s disgusting comments, the idea is really to send a message to men that being a misogynist is not OK. It is not sexy. And it won’t get you laid. It’s pure genius.
Some might argue that the very idea that women would withhold sex as a means to control men is misogynist in itself. It makes sense. But when you look at it purely as educational, it starts to make a little sense. Why would a woman want to be with a man who supports someone who says the things Trump says?
A few examples:
1.) In his 2006 book Trump 101: The Way to Success, Trump wrote: “Beauty and elegance, whether in a woman, a building, or a work of art, is not just superficial or something pretty to see.”
2.) From a tweet: “26,000 unreported sexual assults (Sic) in the military-only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?”
3.) “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.” — from an interview with Esquire, 1991
4.) “I mean, we could say politically correct that look doesn’t matter, but the look obviously matters,” Trump said to a female reporter in a clip featured on “Last Week Tonight.” “Like you wouldn’t have your job if you weren’t beautiful.”
5.) “While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.”
What a class act, right? Although, one of his quotes does give pause…
6.) “Women have one of the great acts of all time. The smart ones act very feminine and needy, but inside they are real killers. The person who came up with the expression ‘the weaker sex’ was either very naive or had to be kidding. I have seen women manipulate men with just a twitch of their eye — or perhaps another body part.” — Trump: The Art of the Comeback, 1997
So, is that what we are doing by dumping Trump voters? Are we just playing into what he already thinks about women voters?

I say no. Here’s why: In general, women owe it to ourselves and to other women to only support men who support women. I’d also argue that I wouldn’t befriend a woman who would vote for Trump either. It’s not about manipulating men with our genitals. It’s about choosing to surround ourselves with people who care about the right things and empathize with us.
I wouldn’t trust that a man who believes in Trump is the kind of man I would want to have children (especially daughters) with. A man who sees those quotes and either agrees or fails to see the big deal isn’t going to be a good dad or husband, at least not in the politically awakened way I would prefer. Better to dump him now.
So when I see #VoteTrumpGetDumped I see a movement that makes a lot of sense. Political disagreements may seem petty, but this is about more than politics. It’s about only dating men who truly respect women.
