Blac Chyna posts pregnant pic and the trolls come out to play

There used to be a time, many years ago, when pregnant women were encouraged to gain weight and a little baby chub was just seen as a sign of robust health. But alas, those attitudes have gone the way of the 8-track and maxi pads that needed a belt to stay put. Now a pregnant lady is faced with advice from friends, doctors and even strangers about how to gain the least amount of weight possible. And I’m here, five kids later, to tell you how much that sucks.

I offer the following as evidence: Blac Chyna, fiancee of Rob Kardashian, recently posted a pic of her blossoming baby bump on Instagram… only to have people call her eleventeen different kinds of fat and ugly, saying she was gaining too much weight.

Let me tell you, anyone who thinks pregnancy is a nine-month long (or 10-month, ahem) smorgasbord of junk food has probably never been pregnant. For most women, the first part involves a lot of puking and aversion to foods once formerly loved (I couldn’t even walk by the meat/seafood counter without hurling). The second trimester, I won’t lie, is stupid fun. Food tastes amazing, so much so that I once told my husband I felt bad for him and his non-uterus-having belly, as he would never understand just how good this steak was. But by the third tri, it’s game over, thanks to relentless heartburn and a baby who has displaced all your internal organs, including your stomach. Plus, there are all the other reasons women gain weight during pregnancy, like water retention, hormones gone wild and boobs that now resemble watermelons.

This fundamental misunderstanding of why and how pregnant women gain weight — and the fact that it’s nobody’s business but her and her doctor’s — has caused many a pregnant woman much misery and shame. I remember a woman at church insisting that I must be having twins because I was “soooo huge” and then sobbing in my car for 10 minutes.

Thankfully Blac Chyna is having none of that nonsense. In a comment on a celebrity fan Instagram account, she wrote, “To all you people out there with negative comments and insecure words (obviously because you have nothing else to do but criticize the next), I AM HAVING A BABY! Exactly what do you expect to see?! If I walked out in makeup and heels everyday to be beautiful to your means I WOULD BE MISERABLE AND UNHAPPY which are two vibes I refuse to transfer to my little one.”

She added that she felt “amazing” and “blessed” so far in her pregnancy.

All I can say is AMEN! What a perfect response to the haters. Who wants to bring a baby into a world where women are taught to hate their bodies from the second they are born? I wish I had had her self-confidence when I was pregnant.
