I have the same thought every month — and I’d say that about 50 percent of the time it is leaking; the other 50 percent I just have phantom pains.

I know I’m not alone in feeling this way; that’s why I was pumped to hear about my.Flow, a new startup that created a device that measures your tampon’s, uh, saturation levels. It works like this: The special tampon has a string that clips to a flow monitor attached to your belt. The monitor then alerts you as your tampon fills up so you know when to change it out.
The original design had an actual Bluetooth sensor attached to it, according to Gizmodo, but the beta testers were freaked out about sticking it all up inside their bodies. That said, I can’t say the extra long string is much better, especially since it has to clip to your pants.

“What’s that sticking out of your pants, Meagan?” starts the awkward conversation.
“Oh, just my tampon,” I reply.
“Um, OK.” Awkward silence.
The device — which is currently seeking more funding — seems like a great way for young girls to learn about dealing with Aunt Flow. As for adults? Well, I’ll pass — I’m already a menstrual cup devotee — but some people will definitely love it. According to Gizmodo, my.Flow will retail for $50 and $13 for a month’s supply of tampons. A little more pricey than regular tampons, but what price do you put on peace of mind?
