Yesterday, writer Yashar Ali tweeted two photos of Griffin with a completely shaved head. She got her new ‘do in support of her sister, Joyce, who is currently going through chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis.

The first photo features Griffin sitting next to her mother, Maggie, who is shown gasping and resting her hand on her daughter’s head. The other image is of Griffin touching her bald head and smiling broadly.
Maggie — who is no stranger to social media — retweeted the photos with the caption: “My daughter Kathleen Mary is a wonderful human being.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t Griffin’s first run-in with a sibling’s cancer diagnosis. Her brother Gary died of esophageal cancer in 2014. But if the smile on Griffin’s newly-shorn head is any indication, she’s not ready to give up hope anytime soon.
