Following the devastating loss of her pregnancy and her private and public grief, Chrissy Teigen shared a very special tribute from her friends to honor her late son, who she and husband John Legend had named Jack.
Sharing an update on Twitter and Instagram on Monday, Teigen showed a video from her friends, including her close friend celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees, each donating blood (reportedly seven pints) to “replace” the blood Teigen was given during her blood transfusions while she dealt with her various pregnancy complications.
“Me and [six] of my friends donated blood to replace the [seven] pints you were given in the hospital, in honor of baby Jack. I love you friend,” Kyees wrote in a post she’d sent to Teigen.
I have the absolute best friends in the world. A small circle but if it were fifty times larger, I still wouldn’t feel the love I do every day. 7 bags donated for the 7 used for jack. Love you so much, @kimmiekyeespic.twitter.com/VuQnHcYSlm

Overwhelmed by this powerful, beautiful gesture, Teigen took to Instagram to expand on her feelings.
“Ok, I tried writing this 4 times but the tears were too much. Here we go again, with my heart full of warmth and happiness,” Teigen said, sharing the message from Kyees. “… Phewwwww the tears. I’m overwhelmed by our circle of friends. The love I feel for each and every person in our circle actually makes me ache. @kimmiekyees, I’ve known you for so many years now. You know every story, you hear every life gripe, you’re amazing at what you do but the way you treat my kids and family is cherished always. To do something like this for baby jack is just…I dunno. Beautiful.
Teigen adds that, due to the coronavirus, the donations for blood have been down (which the American Red Cross confirms) and that the need for blood is constant: “@kimmiekyees was told by the volunteers that donations were severely down because high schoolers are responsible for so much of the blood donated. Usually they’d get a coupon for an ice cream cone or a movie ticket, but without school in session, donations are down. I have a lot of friends who normally would donate from a special day at work, but alas, no work.”
In a time of overwhelming grief (personal and widespread), finding the right thing to say or do for your friends can be a challenge in itself (especially when its not safe to give the bone-crushing hugs they probably need). But these friends came through with a tribute that was truly special — and, one that gives back in a time where so many of us feel so helpless.
“Kimmie, I love you. I love this,” Teigen said. “I am so proud of the people I surround myself and my family with.”
