Jessica Alba just dropped major news about the mental health step she and her teenage daughters have taken. After years of doing so, Alba revealed that she no longer joins her daughters’ therapy sessions.
While chatting with People via MSN in Sept 2023 at the BabyList Showroom in Beverly Hills, Alba revealed that she’s no longer going to therapy with her daughters Honor and Haven. “We’re not doing it together anymore,” she said. “They’re doing it on their own. They’re older now.”
Now, back in 2021, the Honest Life author revealed in an interview with People that she started attending therapy with her daughters to “destigmatize” the experience. “I think just trying to destigmatize what that is. It really is: How can I show up as a mom for my kids and be the best parent for her?”
She added, “There really isn’t one sort of recipe that works across the board. I just wanted to be able to show up for her. I think every lesson is really a moment for reflection. I don’t avoid conversation.”
While she may not be attending their sessions anymore, she’s still spreading awareness on the importance of “tearing down whatever sort of stereotypes or stigmas that may be attached” to going to therapy.
Per Good Therapy, some states do require your parent to attend your first therapy session with you, but after that, it’s up to everyone involved how to proceed. However, many experts agree that therapists find more success in the treatment of children when consulting with their parents, according to PsychCentral. It’s all up to your children’s journey, and we love that Alba is so transparent about every step along the way.
Alba and her husband Cash Warren share three children together named: Honor, 15, Haven, 12, and Hayes, 5.
