For lots of us, neck and back pain are just an accepted fact of life. The constant hunching over phones and computer screens is a big part of it, but let’s be honest, most of us probably don’t have the best posture anyway, whether we’re slumped over at a desk or lugging big bags and purses while we’re out and about. And at a certain point, the background ache in our neck or spine stops being something we can ignore and starts demanding some attention.

We love handheld massagers and foam rollers over here, but they’re not always the top options for back and neck pain — the expensive massagers because you may have to contort yourself to reach the spot you need, the foam roller because it’s not always pinpoint-accurate. So when we saw the Chirp Wheel — a massage wheel specifically designed for neck and back massage — on sale on Amazon, we had to go in for a closer look.

Chirp Wheel Wellness 3-Pack

$110.49 $129.99 15% off

The Chirp Wheel Wellness 3-Pack consists of three wheels, each of which you can also buy separately. The four-inch neck and headache wheel is meant to simulate a neck massage and relieve stress and headaches, while the the six-inch knot-kneading thumb massager is designed to feel like a deep muscle release along your spine. The big 10-inch acupressure massage wheel hits multiple pressure points along your back to “gently invigorate” the muscles, per the brand’s description.

The three different wheels give you options you can’t get with a singular foam roller, allowing you to pinpoint and address your area of need. Altogether, the Chirp Wheel set is designed to release knots, realign your spine, relieve stress, and even help your posture as you loosen up those tense muscles. The neck wheel looks especially relaxing — you just lie down, place it under your neck, and let the pressure points support and release the muscles at the base of your head.

Shoppers say the wheels really do work for pain relief. One reviewer with thoracic scoliosis tried the six-inch wheel and said their experience was painful, but ultimately soothing. “It hurts to lay on it,” they wrote, but after letting it dig into their problem area for five minutes and slowly rolling over the area, “I could immediately tell that the job had been done! The pressure was gone and I could stand up straight again.” They added, “This wheel is going to be my new best friend… If you’re in need of spinal realignment, look no further!”

Another reviewer called the four-inch wheel a “game-changer” that’s become an “indispensable” part of their nightly routine to relieve stress. Another shopper wrote, “This chirp wheel does an AMAZING job loosening the muscles in my back. I only had to use it for 5 minutes or less, and my back felt so much better the next morning.”

Some reviewers noted the relatively high price of the wheel(s) and pointed out that their narrow width makes it more challenging to balance while rolling out their back. Overall, though, 85 percent of the 238 reviews were four or five stars, so it seems like most shoppers left satisfied and (most importantly) free of pain.

Neck and back pain are common but complex issues, and if you aren’t seeing a change with stretching, massage, and posture improvement, make sure to talk to a doctor. But if you are looking for a quick, convenient way to relieve this pain at home, the Chirp Wheel set could be one to try out, especially while it’s on sale for 15 percent off.
